Sebum Fundamentals

Sebum is a thick, waxy substance that is produced by the sebaceous glands of the skin. Its primary function is to lubricate the skin to maintain a healthy skin barrier function. It also helps prevent dryness and reduce the appearance of aging through its protective coating. Having said that, if your skin produces too much sebum, you may experience acne, rosacea, folliculitis, or have oily skin. There are plenty of topical skincare products that will help with sebum-control. Just remember, you don’t want to get rid of every drop of oil on your face. Your skin needs a certain amount of natural oils to stay hydrated!
