Sensitive skin is a skin type where the stratum corneum is thinner and weaker. It’s also not as capable of keeping moisture in or acting as a barrier against pollutants and allergens. As a result, sensitive skin is prone to redness, irritation, and dryness. However, treating it is possible by repairing the barrier with gentle cleansers and moisturizers. For obvious reasons, people with sensitive skin need to be mindful of exfoliating too much, or altogether, as it further removes the weakened top layer of the skin.
