What is Epigenetics?

Epigenetics refers to the study of how your environment and behaviors cause changes that affect the way your genes work. While changes to your genetics can alter which protein is made, epigenetic changes can affect gene expression by turning genes "on" and "off." Behaviors like exercise, sun exposure, stress, and diet can result in epigenetic changes, but not all epigenetic changes are permanent. Over the last few decades, research in epigenetics has been moving forward, including how altering skin epigenetics may affect aging and rejuvenation.
