White Spots on the Skin
Notice white spots on your skin? One possible cause for these white spots is guttate hypomelanosis, also known as sunspots. They can appear after excessive sun exposure or from tanning beds. Although their appearance may be alarming, they are usually harmless and won't impact your health. However, if you notice the spots are getting darker, changing in size, or becoming painful or itchy, it's best to see a doctor. To prevent sunspots, (1) avoid excessive sun exposure, (2) wear UV protective clothing, and (3) use sunscreen regularly. If you want to treat sunspots for aesthetic reasons, consult your doctor for options like dermabrasion, chemical peels, cryotherapy, and lasers, which can improve the localized lack of melanin.
