Silicones
Silicones are ingredients added to skincare formulas that are derived from sand. They give skincare formulas a silky texture, helping them spread smoothly over the skin and provide accompanying moisturizing benefits. On a product package, silicones are often listed as dimethicone, or other names ending with "-cone," such as phenyl trimethicone and methicone. Some myths exist over the use of silicones in skincare ingredients, relating to silicones being pore blocking. This has not been proven by any study or data, and experts today widely agree that silicones are safe to use.
